9 Beauty Sins You Could Be Committing
We all want to look our best, but sometimes we can be our own worst enemy when it comes to our beauty routines. Here are 9 beauty sins you might be committing that could be sabotaging your looks!
Not cleaning your makeup brushes
Not cleaning your makeup brushes. This is a beauty sin that many women are guilty of. Not cleaning your makeup brushes on a regular basis can lead to breakouts and uneven makeup application. Make sure you’re cleaning your brushes at least once a week so you can avoid these beauty pitfalls.
Not using a primer
Not using primer. Primer is an important step in any makeup routine as it helps to create a smooth canvas for your foundation and makeup. However, many women skip this step because they don’t know how to use it properly or they think it’s unnecessary. If you want to make sure your makeup looks its best, make sure you use primer. My new favorite primer is NYX Plump Back Up.
Using powder based makeup after 40
If you owned a pager/beeper and have used a pay phone in your life then it is time for you to stop wearing powder based makeup. Powder based makeup is a great option for younger women, but it’s not the best choice for women over 40. Powder can settle into fine lines and wrinkles, making them more visible. If you want to minimize the appearance of wrinkles, switch to a foundation or BB cream that’s specifically designed for mature skin.
Not moisturizing your skin before applying makeup
This is a common beauty mistake that many women make. Applying makeup to dry skin can cause your makeup to look cakey and can accentuate any dry patches you may have. Make sure you moisturize your skin before applying any type of makeup.
Over-applying makeup
We’ve all been guilty of over-applying makeup at one point or another. Whether we’re trying to cover up a blemish or accentuate our features, it’s easy to go overboard with our makeup. However, less is always more when it comes to makeup, so make sure you’re not applying too much.
Not exfoliating your skin
Exfoliating your skin is important as it helps to remove dead skin cells and gives your skin a healthy glow. However, many of us skip this step because we either don’t have time or we simply forget. If you want to keep your skin looking its best, make sure you’re exfoliating on a regular basis.
Not using sunscreen
We all know the importance of sunscreen, but many of us still don’t use it on a daily basis. Whether you’re just running out to the store or spending a day at the beach, always make sure you’re applying sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. One of my favorites to use is the Tula Protect and Glow Daily.
Sleeping in your makeup
Not washing your face before bed. This is a cardinal sin! Sleeping in your makeup not only clogs your pores, but it can also lead to breakouts. Make sure you wash your face every night before bed, no matter how tired you are.
Wearing the wrong shade of foundation
Wearing the wrong shade of foundation is a common beauty sin that many women commit. If you’re not sure what shade of foundation to choose, make sure you get color-matched at a cosmetics counter so you know you’re choosing the right one for your skin tone.
If you want to make sure you’re not sabotaging your looks, make sure you avoid these 9 beauty sins. From skipping sunscreen to over-applying makeup, these are all common mistakes that many women make. By following these simple tips, you can ensure that you’re doing everything to look like the queen you were meant to look like!

The one I am most guilty of is not cleaning my brushes as often as I need to...
These are all super helpful tips! I feel like I treated my skin poorly throughout my twenties without realizing it. Sunscreen every day is a must and is so washing those brushes. Thanks for typing this up. I'm trying to get better with exfoliation as well!
